SACL Family Network

2009 Report

The SACL Family Network (SFN) had a year of growth, filled with activities and opportunities for families to connect, rest, learn, rejuvenate and celebrate the diversity of families. SFN members network together, based on our experience and strong belief that we are stronger advocates and stronger families when we expand our circle of support and share our knowledge.

Family events were held in the communities of Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Meadow Lake, North Battleford Saskatoon and Regina. These events continue to provide families with a day of fun activities where they can to relax and celebrate their children in a supportive, accepting environment.

An overnight camping event was held at Emma Lake. Everyone enjoyed the casual atmosphere and lots of outdoor games, food and great conversations. During these events many great ideas are shared between parents and lasting friendships are formed.

Our first Mother's retreat was held in Saskatoon in October; 37 mothers expressed their enjoyment. We have several requests for this to be an annual event.

The biggest area of growth was the SFN Sibling Group. During the two overnight events that were held in Saskatoon, the SACL boardroom never looked so festive. We had our first two night event at Hitchhock’s Hideaway, Lake Diefenbaker. These young people are inspired and tireless advocates for their brothers and sisters and bring a new perspective to the SFN.

The SFN strength remains in its membership of families and we continue to search for ways to reach out to more families. We know that the need for support for families is great. We plan to go into the 2009 and 2010 year with great enthusiasm and lots of new ideas.
